Our History
Greetings UBSUC 2007,
The United Black Student Unions of California (UBSUC) Convention Center
Committee, welcomes you to the annual state convention. In 1974, United Black
Students of California held its first convention in Stockton. Under the leadership
of Hattie Morris, a group of high school students and teachers gathered to
promote cooperative efforts among high schools across the state, as well as
to give young African-Americans an opportunity to serve their schools, their
communities and their people. It is with great pride that we continue this
tradition.
Since the initial gathering in 1974, more than one hundred high schools and
over one thousand students have attended regional and state activities. Our
convention participants have had the opportunity to hear individuals like
John Alston, Afriye Quimina, Mrs. Medgar Evers, George McKenna, Larry Carroll,
Angela Davis, Marlon Smith, Lynn Swann, The Honorable LaDoris Cordell, and
many other notable African-Americans from politics, business, education, legal
and medical fields involved in motivating our youth to realize their highest
potential. It is our hope that the students, advisors, and honored guests
will return to their regular routines with a renewed sense of purpose after
participating in the convention activities.
